100 Experience Points
An Adventure in Indie Game Development

Day 6: 16 January 2013

21:40: I was at work until way late today. But sometimes, that’s just life. Unfortunately, that cuts into my time to work on this stuff.

Anyway, I’m ready to spend some time getting some stuff done that people will really be able to see. I don’t think I posted about it, but I finally got the cursor thing working. I went way out of my way through a detour to make a more powerful and easy to use input and selection engine for my game. I’m using Scrum, and I have a sprint backlog set up. I have 38 total points this sprint. On Monday, I completed 3 points. Yesterday 1. I’m way behind. But on the bright side, most of my development work actually happens on the weekend, at the end of that time. It’s OK if I’m behind, because I won’t know if I’m really behind until the end of the sprint.

That’s one thing I’ve learned about sprints, from all of the ones that I’ve done in my life. It’s impossible to truly tell if you’re on track until you’re well into it. Just because you’re behind at the beginning doesn’t mean much.

22:47: It’s getting late. I’ve got to go to bed. I’ll be honest; I’m a little frustrated at the moment. Yeah, things are progressing. I had just hoped that I’d be able to get done with my grid drawing code tonight, but I can’t. It’s too late, and I’ve still got quite a bit left to do. I’m going to bed, and we’ll see how things go tomorrow… :(
